Good Fats Vs. Bad Fats

We hope you had a fun and safe summer! Now that labor day is over and the kids are back to school, it's time to get in shape for the holidays! You may be thinking it's time to start exercising more regularly and consuming a low-fat diet. But, be careful! All fats are not created equal! It is crucial to eat enough of the right types of fats for optimal health and weight loss. Healthy fats play a major role in your moods, mental focus, hormones, and weight control.

"Good fats" are monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. The famous omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids  come from these fats.  Good sources of these healthy fats come from olive and canola oil, almonds, walnuts, avocados, flaxseeds, and fatty fish such as salmon and tuna. Although these fats are very beneficial, fat intake should still be less than 30% of your daily caloric intake.

Benefits of "Healthy Fats"
  • Raises HDL and lowers LDL cholesterol.
  • Helps nourish healthy hair, skin, nails, and bones.
  • Prevents & reduces symptoms of depression.
  • Reduces your risk of heart disease, stroke, and cancer.
  • Helps ease arthritis pain and decrease joint inflammation.
